Second Grade

Deb Bleyenberg – Second Grade

Bio: As a child, I attended Adams Christian School and Covenant Christian High School.  Ever since a remarkable 4th grade teacher made me love school, I knew God had called me to be a teacher too. Following four years of study at Calvin College, I graduated with my elementary teaching degree and Language Arts major in 2007.

Unlike some teachers who have taught the same grade for many years, I have a unique teaching history.  I was first hired by Heritage in 2007 to teach a combined 2nd/3rd class.  It was an interesting, challenging, good year!  The following year I was moved to teach 1st grade.  That year I met my husband, Rev. Bleyenberg, and we were married in July of 2009.  The following three years I did not teach full time, but spent a lot of time substitute teaching at PR schools.  In the fall of 2012, I had the privilege of coming back to teach full time 3rd grade.  And now I’ve been teaching 2nd grade since 2013; I just love it and hope to stay!

Besides teaching, some of my other interests are: birds!! (especially teaching my pet conure new tricks), hiking and biking with my husband, reading, gardening, crafts, and photography.

Bio:  I attended Hope Protestant Reformed Christian School and Covenant Christian High School for my K-12 education before pursuing my teaching degree from Grand Valley State University.  I graduated from GVSU in December, 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies and Elementary Education.  I began teaching here at Heritage in the fall of 2010 and have experience teaching in both the first and second grades.  In May, 2016, I earned my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Cornerstone University.

My wife Kim and I have been married since August, 2010, and God has blessed us with one child, our son Kiptyn.  We are members of Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church.  During our free time, we enjoy reading, camping, playing Spikeball, and spending time with friends and family.
