  • Identifying Trees of Michigan
    This site provides a list of the trees in Michigan and provides upclose pictures of leaves from each tree; also , you can learn how to use the "Tree Finder" books used by students by clicking on the "Dichotomous Key" link.
  • Michigan Forest Association
    Another page that shows drawings of various leaves and gives more uses for each tree.
  • U.S.Department of Agriculture http://plants.usda.gov/java/factSheet
    Click on the "Fact Sheet" link (in green) when you get to this page. A list of trees and fact sheets about each tree will appear. Just click on the tree name or tree fact sheet for which you wish to find information.
  • Ohio Forestry
    This site provides a link to fact pages for many common trees. Each tree listed has a good photo of its leaf, and some uses are described for each tree.
  • British Columbia Adventure Network
    At this site you can find information and drawings for several kinds of trees that are better adapted to a cooler climate. Just click on a tree name on the left side of that page to get started.
  • Forest Landowner Fact Sheets
    On the "Forest Landowner Fact Sheets" type the name of the tree in the box for the "Keyword search" and select "by tree name" off to the right, and then "Start Search" above the map

    This page gives a few of the uses for some of the trees that are on the list.
  • Silvics of North America
    - This site gives the characteristics and uses of about 200 species and varieties of most of the commercially important trees of the United States and Canada.  Just click on the “Conifers” link for trees that have some type of needle on them, or click on the “Hardwoods” link for trees that have leaves.

    - Plants For A Future is a resource centre for rare and unusual plants, particularly those which have edible, medicinal or other uses.
  • Virginia Tech Forest ResourcesThis tree database from Virginia Tech can help you find both 
    pictures of leaves and facts about them. 
    Just type in the common name, and the database
    will do a search for the tree.  When
    you’re given the results, scroll down and click on the tree name (in blue) for
    the picture, or click on the landowner fact sheet (also in blue) for the
